Hedi Slimane, né à Paris, le 5 juin 1968, est un styliste français. Après un passage en hypokhâgne pour préparer l’Institut d’études politiques de Paris, il entre à l’École du Louvre où il étudie l’histoire de l’art. De 1992 à 1995, il assiste Jean-Jacques Picart, notamment sur le projet du centenaire de la « toile monogramme » de Louis Vuitton. Il débute dans le prêt-à-porter comme directeur des collections chez Yves Saint-Laurent en 1997 puis devient directeur artistique. Après une collection black tie pour l’automne-hiver 2000–2001, il choisit de quitter YSL pour accepter le poste de directeur artistique chez Christian Dior pour la collection homme.

En 2003, il se voit confier la direction des parfums et de la création et de l’architecture des boutiques. Il a été récompensé par le titre de « styliste de l’année », remis par la CFDA. Photographe, styliste et designer, il participe à de nombreux projets dans la presse (redacteur en chef d’un jour pour Libération), la musique (couverture d’albums pour Phœnix), etc. En 2004, il publie Stage (Steidl), un recueil de photographies de groupes de rock.Grand admirateur du chanteur à scandales Pete Doherty, il réalise au printemps 2005 un numéro spécial de Libération, avec un habillage et un agencement bien singuliers, donnant au passage sa vision du Rock’n'roll.

Hedi Slimane born July 5, 1968 in Paris is a French fashion designer. He studied Art History at the Ecole du Louvre, and was also educated as a tailor. From 1992 to 1995 he worked for Jean-Jacques Picart, notably on the centenary exhibition of Louis Vuitton’s “LV” monogramme label. After working as Collections Director for Yves Saint Laurent Rive Gauche Homme in 1997, and subsequently as Artistic Director. In 2000 he became the chief designer for Dior Homme. In 2002, the CFDA named him the International Designer of the Year in New York.

Boasting a background in furniture design, fragrance, store design, and photography, he is famous for popularizing the slim silhouette in menswear. As well as a fashion designer, he has been involved in various other projects, including becoming editor-in-chief of Libération and designing album covers for artists such as Phoenix or Theswimmingpools. In 2004 he published Stage, a collection of his Rock photography. Slimane has many connections to the British indie-rock scene, notably his close friendship with controversial Babyshambles singer Pete Doherty. In 2004 German documentary-makers Christina Trebbi and Gero Von Boehm made a documentary about Slimane, entitled Hedi Slimane, ma vie (”Hedi Slimane, my life”).

Hedi is widely known to use very young and thin models for his fashion shows, he also claims to have recruited young folks in London and Berlin who fit within his criteria.
